I have got some information from th etransport book for the 2012 olympics. It has a table including teh distance from the olympic village to teh stadium and the shortest journey time. (3km and 7 minutes)It also has all of teh taining venues distances etc. There is also a scale map of the are 1:20,000. I think we would need to present a 'zoomed in' version to make teh measuring etc. viable.

Hi, Simon and i just discussed the meeting we have. I leave for Africa very soon so i am a bit of a nuisance really. I am happy for Simon to represent me. I have made a start on some of teh background stuff but will hold off on the actuatal pupil/teacher bit until i know exactly what is required. Please don't feel like you have to write the geography bits though as i will make sure i get them done as soon as i get back!

Ha, not so hard after all, and it is Monday morning - humph! So how do we go about making something like a notice board or post it note page? Can we do a post it note page where we just 'stick' stuff?

Like the look of thinkature. Also think just having an ideas page for each pod is a good and easy way of sharing thoughts. Who gets to make the excutive decision though on which idea we go with?

Walking to work this morning on a slightly different route from normal, I realised that there is a thinly disguised Nanogyte centre of operations in Wardour Street. Check out http://www.nanobytebar.com/map.html.
I am not sure whether to suggest a visit armed with 'dust' next time the writers meet - or if we should keep clear.

Shift happens available on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeoKQbT8BKs is a very powerful way to contexualise the changes that need to happen in education in order to enable pupils to develop the skills they will need for a very challenging future. My colleagues and I have used this to launch the new curriculum and it has had a powerful impact on teachers mindsets. What do you think?

A thought provoking video. The last few hundred years have really been a bit of an anomally. Chinese and Indian civilizations have vibrant and advanced societies for the past several thousand years. The western hegemony has only been a short, recent interruption to this - one than looks set to fade as the west once again sinks into barbarian obscurity. For myself the signs of this shift are things like; the rise of intelligent design and creationism, the decreasing percentage of science and engineering students, the decrease of primary industrial sectors like farming, fisheries and mining and increasing population surveillance.

Hi Donna - I am a little concerned about the phrase 'those who are less progressive'. It seems to give the impression of superiority. Can we change it to something like 'schools with tighter constraints' or those with more traditional structures...?

dch has started us of with a brillient set of wikipedia entrie and and iamge and film clip. What's the next step? My imagination takes me to D&T graphic products course work in developing Alien 5 and the associated pop up book along with Predator 3. May be we should talk to an examining body and QCA ]about the potential of a controlled task in response to sci fi films. The notion of the alien'f form being dependent on the original host impreganated by the face hugger gives lots of scope - remember the end of AvP - an predator alien combo - now there's a movie! I'm off to Forbidden Planet tomorrow to gather some stimulus material - will be in touch!

I agree with pupils having an opportunity to choose their route through a unit of work. I think technology will be of great assistance with systems such as VLEs allowing pupils to access support material and use their teacher for advice and guidance rather than as the font of all knowledge. This will assist a move from the current prevalent behaviourist culture in our schools to a social constructivist model where the co-construction of knowledge through collaboration is enabled both on and off screen through cyber-space collaboration or good old face to face collaboration.

A child or young person can use a given robot to achieve learning in a variety of subjects through a range of educational tasks. A child or young person can build a robot that someone else has designed and programme it to perform useful functions. A child or young person can design and make a robot for their own purposes and programme it to meet these purposes. And of course pupils can carry out each of these three sorts of activity across all key stages.
And not just STEM – David Levy ahs written a book “Love + Sex with Robots – (The evolution of human-robot relationships – not quite so catchy) so some down and dirty PSHE as well. Hey... I only just found this! Are those ants Sumo wrestling? I think that's the kind of sport ants could really get into - all that ritual.
I've been thinking a lot about the 'what if' side of things. I'm going to take a look at using 'what if' thinking more explicitly in creative writing teaching and see if I can develop some writing games. When I do, I'll fling them this way to see if they can be adapted.
It does kind of worry me that the 'what if' exploration is so imaginative and energising and yet most of those roads are already closed. And while I don't doubt that teachers are every bit as sneaky as writers when it comes to steering people along a pathway, I worry that the exercise could easily seem meaningless.
