RECYCLING BIN STATION



Rationale and context
The Olympic Village Maintenance Officer has been asked to address the issue of recycling waste in the Food Hall . He/She needs to give a product designer the brief of designing and making a model for a recycling bin station to be placed in the Hall. The students will be introduced to the project by looking at existing products and the range of materials available to them. The students will be divided into teams and will then have to come up with their own solutions to the brief. They will have to justify their choices on the basis of the information given to them. The product will be realized as a scaled model (or full scale) and the findings presented to the rest of the class.

Brief
To design and make a model of a recycling bin station to be placed in the Food Hall. The product must reflect the Olympic ethos.

Lesson 2 Technology
Introduce the Product Designer who has been asked to design and model a recylcing bin station to be place in the Food Hall.
Students will be split into teams of product designers.

Lesson 4 Technology
  • Students will be given specs
  • Teams to come up with a range of design ideas based on their nets.
  • Teams to make a card model of their final idea

  • Teams to evaluate their finished product before presenting their finding to the resto of the class.
