Engage: Show students images of - or real - objects made from differemt materials (some synthetic and some natural)

Elicit: Students suggest where the materials come from and what happened on their journey to becoming the final product.

Explore: Students are presented with differnt prodcuts (synthestic and natural/organis) and a information pack about then - detailing how they are produced, what the cost of prodcution is, what the environmental impact is images of an object (polyester shirt) with other images depicting its jounrey from oil to being sold in a shop (Oil, ship, factory, lorry, packaging, etc...).

Students should use a thinking tool to help them organsie their thoughts and decide what the advantages and disadvantages are.
Could use PMI - Plus Minus Interesting or a Venn diagram.

Evaluate: Students discuss which is the better material - argue a case based on environmental impact, cost etc..

Explain: Go through a cycle of one of the materials (natural or synthetic) and at each stage highlight what the impact on the environment is.
