Engage: Pictures of athletes - and students have to decide which athletes should live in the same accommodation

Elicit: Feedback - why were these athletes chosen to live together? Do they have similar needs? Are they on the same team?

Explain: Explain how architects need to look at the needs of the people who will use the building and make sure their needs are met.

Elaborate: Students write a specification for the design brief (A/T/ST/2)

Engage/elicit : Students shown a picture of an empty landscape and then a picture of the same /similar landscape with a building in it and are asked how it got there. Who was involved in the process of getting the building ready to be used?

Explore: Students focus on the architect and come up with their job description - to include personal attributes, skills, qualifications etc...

Engage: picture of different buildings designed for different purposes - students to try and think what the purpose was behind the design. It had to meet the needs of the users, and students should try and identify what these needs are.

Explain: Students introduced to the concept of design specification

Elaborate: Students look at the different athletes and carry out a PIES need analysis.
