Seriously hard scifi is used in some tertiary level courses I've seen - wouldn't it be great to use it as a hook for a STEM activity. lets talk about it .. really. Do you find this valuable? |

May 6 2008, 1:36 PM EDT What about the biology then..... The science of fear, fight and flight, etc.... Adaption to habitat is always a cracker with aliens. Work from a habitat to an alien or vice versa. Do you find this valuable? |

Biomechanics - physics, engineering, biology. cybernetics - engeering, maths, computing, biology (e.g. cyborgs) cryogenics - biology/physiology - response to freezing/ cooling predator-prey relationships - maths, biology silicate biochemistry - biology/chemistry - novel proteins, polymers. I have a feeling that the Alien 'Alien' is a bioengineered organism a la Giger. So we would be looking for its adaptation in terms of molecular acid blood, endoparasitic reproduction, vacuum tolerance, rapid growth, insectoid social structure etc. All in all a pretty fertile source of ideas to explore. Lets get started! Do you find this valuable? |
