Hello, my name is Cris Edgell

home - Nuffield KS3 STEM Project

My career has taken me from Carlisle to Cairo (and Vienna to Peckham!) giving me the opportunity to teach in cultures with very different educational priorities. In all cases I’ve enjoyed leading whole school cross-curricular projects which allow pupils to explore big questions.

A special interest in environmental education led me to study an MSc in Nature Conservation at UCL. I've had the opportunity help on conservation projects with coral in the Red Sea, black vultures in Spain - I've even had a go at tattooing macaque monkeys in Sri Lanka! All these projects confirm the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in solving complex problems.

Much of the remainder of my career has been spent in London, first as a Manager of a Learning Support Unit and then as a Science AST. I’ve been involved in several London Challenge projects in challenged schools aimed at breaking the link between child poverty and low achievement.

More recently I have acted as assistant head teacher at a school in Richmond. As the member of SLT in charge of Teaching and Learning I developed a new PACE programme for Year 7. This is a thematic competency based curriculum in which pupils develop the skills to complete a negotiated weekly challenge of their choice.

My task as Nuffield KS3 STEM Project Director is to produce a new dialogic model for resource development which allows for feedback and review from an on line community. The aim is to produce free wiki-ed STEM resources for schools that can be constantly updated.
